Are you wanting to make a career change in 2025? You may wonder how you can go about this change though. To help you in this career shift, we have outlined 4 main points to help as you seek a new position or career field:

Understand Your Motivation and Goals

One of the first steps you should take when looking to pivot into a new career is understand the why. Writing down all these steps will help you in your pivot towards the new career, but especially in understanding your goals. Why the change? Why now? Why the new desired career field in particular? Understanding these things clearly will help you see the bigger picture and stay motivated as you work to reach your new career goals.

What’re Your Transferable Skills?

Take a look at your resume and think about what skills you have gained from your previous and current occupation that will be able to translate to the new career.

What are the Desired Skills for the New Career?

Find current job listings that are in your desired field, ones that you  would be more likely to apply to. Looking at the required and desired skills and qualifications that employers list will help you to see where your skills will transfer and how you can rewrite them on your resume to use the verbiage present in your new industry. This will also allow you to see what skills you might be missing. Do not get discouraged though! That brings us into our last point on what you can do to fill those gaps.

Network & Learn

One of the best ways to get your foot in the door in a new industry is to network. Go to networking events where you can meet with local industry employers and others already in your desired career path. Be humble, eager, and always willing to learn from those in the industry whom you meet. They may give you insights that can help you as you seek to apply for jobs in your desired field and be successful.
